Strengthening Academic and Cultural Collaboration

PSIR Dean Dr. Maja Savić-Bojanić Visits the Università degli Studi di Genova

As part of the EDIRE (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for Research Enhancement in Bosnia and Herzegovina) mobility program, Dr. Maja Savic-Bojanic Dean of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST), completed a week-long study visit to the University of Genoa (UniGe) from October 13 to 17, 2025.

The visit, coordinated by UniGe in cooperation with the Municipality of Genoa’s Department of Culture and the School of Social and Human Sciences, focused on strengthening partnerships in the areas of culture, migration, social inclusion, and gender equality. Meetings were held with the Councilor for Culture, representatives of the Municipal Technical Office, and the Director of the Department of Political and International Sciences, alongside experts in migration, juvenile justice, and gender budgeting.

Highlights included a guided visit to Staglieno Cemetery, one of Genoa’s most significant heritage sites, which inspired discussion on how cultural spaces can serve as platforms for inclusion, memory, and community engagement. Dr. Savić-Bojanić also delivered an open lecture to students of Professor Pitino’s Immigration Law course titled “Illegal Border Crossings along the Western

Balkan Route with a Special Focus on Unaccompanied Minors.”

The meetings emphasized the shared commitment of SSST and UniGe to bridging academic research with public policy and civic practice, while exploring joint opportunities such as a future #Erasmus K171 #MobilityGrant. The exchange also opened doors for joint research initiatives, curriculum development, and staff-student exchanges in the fields of social justice, gender responsive governance, and sustainable cultural development.

This successful visit marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between SSST, UniGe, and the Municipality of Genoa, aimed at promoting inclusive education, cultural innovation, and research cooperation across Europe.
