Two EDIRE Trainings Successfully Completed

On Friday, March 14th two EDIRE trainings were held.

The first training, titled “Awareness: The Missing Link in EDI,” was conducted by Sofiane Mahi from the University of Reims. During the training, we explored the crucial role of awareness in advancing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in academia. While policies and initiatives are in place, true change requires a shift in mindset. By challenging biases and systemic barriers, awareness becomes the key driver of inclusive transformation.

We also touched on key topics addressed through EDI, including:

    •    Ethnicity and Race

    •    Gender

    •    Sexual Orientation and LGBTQ+ Rights

    •    Disability

    •    Ageism

    •    Socioeconomic Status

    •    Religion and Belief

    •    Body Image/Grossophobia

    •    Nationality/Immigration Status

    •    Parenting and Pregnancy

The second training, titled “The What, Why, and How of Using Narratives in Intersectional Research,” was conducted by Caitriona Delaney from TU Dublin.

During this session, we gained insights into how and why narratives are a valuable tool for reaching diverse audiences while also recognizing them as a rigorous research method. The seminar presented examples from research demonstrating how narratives serve as an effective vehicle to illuminate intersectionality in the “real world.” We also discussed classic, composite, and novel narratives.

We sincerely thank Sofiane and Caitriona for their time, as well as all the participants who attended the trainings.
