On Tuesday, February 27th, a training session titled “How to Select a Journal to Publish Your Research” was organized by an EDIRE partner from TU Dublin.
The training was facilitated by Aisling Coyne & Roisin Guilfoyl and proved to be highly successful and beneficial for all early career researchers as well as academic staff. The discussions were productive, addressing numerous questions.
Key topics covered during the training session included:
- General Publishing: Understanding the landscape of academic publishing.
- Predatory Publishing: Learning to identify and avoid predatory practices.
- Open Access Publishing:
- Green Route: Exploring institutional repositories and authors’ rights.
- Gold Route: Understanding Article Processing Charges (APCs) and Creative Commons licenses.
- Diamond Route: Discovering options such as the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and faculty-led publishing.
Overall, the training provided valuable insights into the publication process and strategies for selecting appropriate journals for research dissemination.
We should remember the following:
- You do not need to pay an APC – it’s not only way to make your work Open Access.
- It may not be wise to target a journal because it’s on the IReL list.
- Lodging your authors accepted manuscript into Arrow, institutional repository, satisfies policy and Green Open Access.
The training was recorded and can be watched on EDIRE Youtube Chanel:
