Kick-off Meeting, Sarajevo, September 2022
With two panel sessions and an engaging discussion between academics and government representatives, the SSST team led by the project coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jasminka Hasić Telalović is kickstarting the activities on the EDIRE (Equality Diversity and Inclusion for Research Enhancement in Bosnia and Herzegovina) project within the Horizon Europe scheme, funded by the European Union.
The principles of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are still a novelty for scientific research conducted within BiH academic institutions.
First panelists – EDIRE partners and experienced Horizon scheme participants for many years, including Prof. Dr. Angela Celeste Taramasso, Vice-rector for Equality and Inclusion at the University of Genoa, Italy, and Prof. Dr. Yvonne Galligan, Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion at the Technological University Dublin, Ireland – shared their successful project initiatives that incorporated EDI principles in the core of their activities, but also explained the importance of gendering data and knowledge across all scientific branches and fields.
BiH panelists – Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton; Prof. Dr. Jasmina Husanović from the University of Tuzla; academician Prof. Dr. Mirsada Hukić from the Academy of Sciences and Art of Bosnia-Herzegovina – discussed recent efforts to highlight and implement gender mainstreaming within the university channels, but also to sensitize academia stakeholders and decision-making structures to the importance of such changes.
Within the next three years, EDIRE will focus to reinforce SSST’s science and research structure by adopting good practices and knowledge-sharing networks with partner universities from Italy, Spain, France, and Ireland. This project also aims to share knowledge across the BiH university network, but also other scientific institutions.
