At the final conference of the #NEXUS Project, held on 23 September 2025 in Krakow, Poland, representatives of the EDIRE Sarajevo School of Science and Technology, Prof. Lejla Pasic and Prof. Semira Galijasevic, SSST took part in presenting the project’s results and activities within the broader context of European efforts to advance gender equality in #research and #innovation.
NEXUS Conference, titled “Fostering #Sustainable Change: Effective Policy and Practice for #Inclusive #GenderEquality in Europe”, gathered leading experts, policymakers, and academics from across Europe to discuss strategies for embedding #equality, #diversity, and #inclusion in #science, #research, and higher education institutions.
Prof. Lejla Pašić contributed as a panelist in the session “Policy Gaps, Development and Recommendations”, moderated by Lina Donnarumma, Higher Education Manager at Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT).
Alongside Prof. Pašić, the panel featured distinguished speakers:
📌 Prof. Yvonne Galligan – Director of the Centre on Inclusive and Equitable Cultures (RINCE) and Professor Emeritus of Comparative Politics at Technological University Dublin.
📌Hana Tenglerová – Policy Officer at the European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation, Unit for Democracy, Equality and Culture – Gender Sector.
📌 Magdalena Chrobak-Tatara – Counsellor, European Union Section, Department of Innovation and Development, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland.
The panel explored pressing issues in European gender equality policies, identified gaps in implementation, and provided recommendations for creating more effective frameworks that foster sustainable institutional change.
Prof. Semira Galijašević and Prof. Lejla Pašić emphasized how the EDIRE Project contributes to building inclusive academic environments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while also aligning with EU standards and practices for institutional transformation.
Through its participation, EDIRE reinforced its commitment to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to positioning SSST and Bosnia and Herzegovina as active contributors to European dialogues on gender equality in higher education and research.
NEXUS Project (GA 101094949 — NEXUS — HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-ERA-01) co-designs, implements, monitors and evaluates innovative and targeted actions aimed at bridging inclusivity gaps in nine research organisations and their respective R&I ecosystems with the aim to bolster institutional change through the development of inclusive Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) in intersectional and intersectional directions.
